Steve H., Central Ohio
Independent Home Care Provider

"Inflation drives the prices of everything up. We don't need cuts during these expensive times. I work hard just like everyone else and cuts to the Ohio budget have hurt providers like me."

Jennifer L., Grandview, Ohio
Children's Librarian

"In July, we experienced cuts that led our library to reduce its materials budget, offer less programs, shorten hours, and perhaps most painfully, terminate 17 employees. Libraries had already been doing more with less, but these blows are something that have drastically changed the landscape of libraries."

Jeff R., Central Ohio
Independent Home Care Provider

"There is simply no justification for these budget cuts at all. If this State would expand home care, it would find that it is far less expensive than institutional care. It is time to stand and fight back! Enough is enough."

Catherine G., Northeast Ohio
Independent Home Care Provider

"My husband recently lost his job, so we must rely on my income to survive. We need every bit of my check to keep us going and the cuts to the State budget will have a major affect on us."

Pam P., Central Ohio
Independent Home Care Provider

"We are trying to take care of our consumers, but we as providers need to be able to take care of ourselves as well. With the cuts to the State budget, providers like won't be able to afford health insurance or the medicine that keeps us alive."

Rubie R., Northeast Ohio
Independent Home Care Provider

"It took ten years for home care providers to get their first wage increase and now the Government has taken it back. This will effect our ability to care for our consumers and our own families."

Miriam S., Northeast Ohio
Independent Home Care Provider

"I am a mother of 3 trying to make ends meet. As a home care provider, we struggle as it is to make sure our consumers have what they need. Stop the cuts - consumers and providers deserve better."

Save Ohio Budget Alert

Tell the Ohio Senate YES on HB 318 and NO on SB 52.

The Ohio budget is facing a $851 million hole that must be fixed.

Tell the Ohio Senate YES on HB 318 and NO on SB 52!

Governor Strickland has proposed fixing the hole by freezing income tax rates for two years, to protect against additional budget cuts or raising other taxes. The Ohio House passed his proposal (HB 318) earlier this month. Now it is up to the Senate to act.

Some Republican Senators who oppose the tax freeze have proposed a government consolidation plan (SB 52) that cuts 11,000 state jobs and downsizes state government down to 11 agencies.

In reality SB 52 does little to fix the immediate need to balance the budget. It would take years to implement and would actually cost additional money in the short-run. Plus such consolidation would jeopardize services Ohioans need and rely on in tough times.

Please e-mail your state senator today by clicking the link above! Tell them to support HB 318, Governor Strickland’s tax freeze proposal that fixes the budget hole, and reject SB 52, a consolidation scheme that would cut critical public services without addressing the immediate need to balance the budget.

ohioGovernor Strickland proposes tax freeze

09/30/2009 - Governor Ted Strickland proposed today freezing the state income tax rates for the current biennium, thus avoiding deeper cuts to education and safety net services.

“While we recognize the dire economic situation Ohio is in, it is in these times that Ohioans expect their elected officials to do the right thing, including taking the tough step to consider the tax freeze as proposed by Governor Strickland to balance the budget.” says SEIU District 1199 president Becky Williams.

SEIU District 1199 calls on the Ohio Legislature to act swiftly to enact Governor Strickland’s proposed tax freeze in a bipartisan manner to protect the critical services that Ohioans need.
